Usher In The Fall Season

We had a lot of fun all summer long, now it’s time for some fall frivolity before the sprint to the holiday season! Amid the apple picking, pumpkin selecting, and hay riding, you may want to decorate your home to reflect fall!

Some great tips to freshen your decor seasonally are to swap out accessories.

  • Change throw pillows or their covers, opting for richer or slightly greyed tones to complement your decor. (Note, traditional fall colors may not complement your decor, so don’t feel that you need to use them to add an air of fall to your home. For example, if you decorate with blues and turquoise is your summer accessory color, then a grey or slate blue may be the perfect accent color for fall.)
  • Add a cozy throw or two to add a textural element as …well as a means to fight off fall’s chill.

The Loft at AI…

When I visited the DC Design House last April, I had no idea it would lead me to Sandra Steele, the Press Liaison to this not-for-profit corporation.

Ms. Steele is the proud owner of the Loft at AI, based in Frederick, Maryland.  Although I am a native northern Virginian, I admit that I have never taken the time to visit Frederick, a place that is only a stone’s throw from my home.

On Saturday, I found may way to Frederick and to the Loft at AI.  If I had a pick-up truck at my disposal, I would have come home with many-a-souvenir.

Save the Date: Perks in Palm Beach on September 30

The beginning of fall is always a good time to shop. When Tory Burch is giving 10% off, it’s a great time to shop, and when 10% of the evening’s total proceeds benefit the American Red Cross Greater Palm Beach (FL) chapter (which serves seven counties!)—well, what could be better?

Traditional Home is partnering with the American Red Cross Designer’s Show House in 2011 and fundraising starts with a kickoff event on September 30. Stop by

Blogshelf, Part II

Following up on my recent post on the iPad app ‘Blogshelf’, the kind folks who developed the app contacted me to indicate it is possible to subscribe to a Typepad-hosted blog and have the most recent blog entry’s first photo appear in the icon simply by subscribing to the RSS feed. So all is good in the RSS subscription world and Blogshelf.

And those kind developers included an Interior Design section in their recommended sites for their Blogshelf application. This is why I embrace technology.

A Side Story About a Beacon

We just put together a :30 video of the work Budget Blinds did in 2008 with the great folks from THIS OLD HOUSE® in New Orleans! Take a half a minute and enjoy!  It’s a fun culmination of all the work we did in New Orleans.  We hope you like it. In her project blog, Rashida, the homeowner, writes that her neighbors view her home as “a beacon of hope”. We’re glad we could participate.

Thanks to everyone who worked on this project, and particularly these folks:

  • Rashida, the incredibly gracious homeowner and artist. See h

Movin’ on up to the East Side: 38th annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House

This week, we received the wonderful news that the Kips Bay Decorator Show House has found a home for 2010 and is underway. Normally presented in the spring, this year’s previously-secured property fell through because someone purchased the townhouse and wanted to move in right away, forcing the project to be postponed.

The new house marks the 38th year of the event and fundraiser, which garners about $1 million each year for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, and receives 20,000 visitors over a four-week period. The non-profit Boys & Girls Club serves more than 13,000 children by providing after-school and enrichment programs at 10 locations in the Bronx.

A recently-renovated 17-room mansion at 106 E. 7
