Gorgeous weekend, though for much of Saturday I was suffering from two too many cocktails (not normally my bag, but created by the dangerous genius hand of Jared at Sipsmith who added his own concoctions distilled from his Cotswold garden).

We started with gin and champagne jelly with borage and verbena, so you might understand why plans to turn the manure pile were postponed.

Sunday saw the allotment site AGM, and have to say two hours talking (even listening) through changing of rules on membership – though in the end there weren’t any changes – reinforces my feelings that gardeners are better at digging than deciding.

At least someone is getting some work done

The good news for us is that our proposal to establish a communal cow compost heap we will share with other allotment holders interested in biodynamics was given trial approval.

Need to clear space for green manure

We had Howard’s daughters Nancy and Rose with us and they were keen to get on with the digging. So while they worked, Howard and I stood around, made plans, gathered salad (the sorrel is particularly perfect now), and beet leaves and then we left to walk home by the heath. Didn’t quite have the appetite for the boozy barbecue.

Anway, back on site very soon to make the most of the fine weather, dig the plot, scatter green manure seed and turn the cow muck. But how was the weekend for you?
