Are you considering buying a sewing machine as a gift for someone or for yourself? Today, sewing machines come in so many different models and have so many features it can be difficult to know which to choose.
Before shopping for a machine you need to take some basic facts into consideration:
How much will the sewing machine be used? Will all of the features be used or just one or two? What type of sewing will be done? How much are you willing to spend for a machine? Will the machine be moved around?
If you will not be using the machine that much, a cheaper basic model may be just what you need. If you are going in for quilting or working with heavier fabrics, you will want a sturdier machine than if you just do occasional sewing. If you will frequently be taking the machine from place to place, consider the more lightweight portable models.
Good machines are available for less than a hundred dollars, but these are not as durable as higher priced models. An inexpensive machine is fine if you will not be sewing that much, but if you know that you will use your machine frequently, it is more cost effective to spend a little more and get a longer lasting machine. Slightly more expensive machines tend to be quieter and quicker than the cheapest models.
