In this post our attention is towards an installation by Valentin Ruhry, an artist living in Vienna and Graz. His art installations and artistic materials often deal with topics from everyday life, but treated in a humorous manner. The one that follows after the jump certainly made me smile.

This is one of those brilliant ideas that makes you wonder why didn’t I think about that myself. Valentin Ruhry took 5.000 of those orange rocker switches you normally see in surge protectors and power strips and installed them onto a blank canvas. You can turn the switches on and off to create your own message. Loads of possibilities here! The on and off also represent the two-binary digits 0 and 1 and is also a nod to the “Hello World” one of the earliest messages on the computer screen. Seems like something ideal for a large wall in an office or house. I bet it would turn heads.

The Untitled (Hello World.) is on display at the Fünf Räume, (German for “Five Rooms“) exhibition where they present five emerging artists from Austria. Valentin Ruhry is one of them that has been given the opportunity to transform a space within the galleries of the Austrian Cultural Forum New York (ACFNY). If you’re in NY, you’ll have the chance to see that piece through September 5, 2011. There will be guided exhibition walkthroughs every Wednesday, 5pm at ACFNY, 11 East 52nd St.
