When I visited the DC Design House last April, I had no idea it would lead me to Sandra Steele, the Press Liaison to this not-for-profit corporation.
Ms. Steele is the proud owner of the Loft at AI, based in Frederick, Maryland. Although I am a native northern Virginian, I admit that I have never taken the time to visit Frederick, a place that is only a stone’s throw from my home.
On Saturday, I found may way to Frederick and to the Loft at AI. If I had a pick-up truck at my disposal, I would have come home with many-a-souvenir.
I first came across Scarlet Bakes at a local Farmers Market, where it was hard to resist the delicious cookies they had available. As well as selling homemade cookies, they also produce a great range of cookie mixes. The homemade cookie mixes are layered up attractively in glass kilner jars (which you can re-use) and come with an easy-to-follow recipe. All you need to do is add butter and eggs and, bingo, you’ve got cookies ready to bake! T 
Pink flamingo table If you enjoy a sense of fun in your home furnishings, then how about this unusual pink flamingo table? It’s been cleverly designed in the shape of a flamingo, with the two table legs angled in the same spindlely way as a flamingo. In order to balance the table and make it functional for using, the third table leg is designed to be like the head and long neck of a flamingo. It’s a really fun piece and, although rather quirky, has a certain degree of elegance about it. As someone who’s been fascinated by seeing pink flamingos in the wild, the table very effectively captures the shape and activity of flamingos, especially the idea of the head dipping down into the water to hunt for food.
